小黄鸭导航 ISD named Top K-12 Green Power User in the Nation

小黄鸭导航 ISD families can rest assured their school district is one of the top in the nation in regards to the environment and sustainability, and it鈥檚 saving them money too.

The Environmental Protection Agency named 小黄鸭导航 ISD as the No. 2 Kindergarten through 12th grade Green Power user.

鈥淲e are proud of this recent designation by the EPA,鈥 said Acting Chief of Operations Matias Segura. 鈥淓very day as educators, we strive to be an example to our students and inspire them to make a positive contribution to society. This designation I believe does this.鈥

AISD purchases 19,780,000 kilowatt-hours of renewable energy annually to reduce the environmental impacts of electricity use and support the development of new renewable generation capacity nationwide.

In addition to the district鈥檚 sustainability mission and goals, it is also fiscally responsible to use renewable energy. Utility bills are the second-highest operating cost for school districts behind salaries.

"Purchasing renewable power is one way that we can be responsible stewards of our environment, support a workforce that our students are entering, and set an example for our students to make positive contributions to society," said Sustainability Manager Darien Clary.

As of April 26, the combined annual green power use of the EPA鈥檚 Top 30 K-12 小黄鸭导航s amounts to more than 95 million kilowatt-hours of green power, which is equivalent to the annual electricity use of nearly 9,000 average American homes.

AISD will receive a plaque to commemorate this notable achievement.
