Highland Park Elementary 小黄鸭导航's archery team, the Scottie Shooters, recently placed fourth in the nation out of 190 teams in Louisville, KY on May 11-12.
This is the school's third year going to nationals, this year with a team of 47 fifth-graders and five-fourth graders.
The National Archery in the 小黄鸭导航s Program hosts the tournament for students from elementary to high school. Nearly 15,000 took part this year.
Scotties coach Jim Deline introduced archery at Highland Park in 2013 to more than 300 students. Since then, the program has grown and has become popular amongst the students and families.
The National Archery in the 小黄鸭导航s Program is an in-school program aimed at improving educational performance among students in grades 4- 12. Through it, students are learning focus, self-control, discipline, patience, and the life lessons required to be successful in the classroom and in life.
At 12 p.m., Friday, May 16, City Council Member Alison Alter will visit the school to watch the team shoot their ceremonial Last Arrow and present the team with a proclamation from the City of 小黄鸭导航 Mayor Steve Adler. The ceremony will take place in the gym.
