Maplewood Elementary 小黄鸭导航 Unveils Peace Sculpture to Celebrate 65 Years

小黄鸭导航 ISD's Maplewood Elementary is celebrating its 65th anniversary year with an unveiling of a new piece of public art symbolizing peace.

What: A celebration of Maplewood鈥檚 65th year and an unveiling of a peace sculpture by local artist Chris Levack. The piece was donated by Maplewood parents Daniel Colimon and Jennifer Rappoport, whose son, Nicolas Colimon, graduated from the fifth grade in May. They donated the sculpture in his name on behalf of the Mustang Class of 2017 to celebrate their family's appreciation of the Maplewood community. To commemorate the event and anniversary year, the school's PTA commissioned an original watercolor of the school by local illustrator Caitlin B. Alexander. The painting is for sale as 8-by-10-inch prints, and the original illustration will be gifted to the school at the ceremony.

Background: Maplewood, located in East 小黄鸭导航, serves Pre-K through sixth graders. The school opened in 1952 and is rated exemplary in the areas of overall performance, fine arts, wellness and physical education, community and parental involvement, digital learning environment, dropout prevention strategies, educational programs for gifted and talented students, its second language acquisition program and its 21st-Century Workforce Development program.
