Kealing Middle 小黄鸭导航 science teacher Logan Pearce recently returned from the Honeywell Educators @ Space Academy at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. Pearce was one of 250 educators from 27 countries and 47 states to receive a scholarship for the all-expense paid professional development program.
The week of camp provided Pearce with authentic astronaut training, and 45 hours of professional development on space science and exploration. Activities included classroom, laboratory and field training exercises, which are linked to U.S. science and math teaching standards. Teachers also experienced astronaut training including a high-performance jet simulation, scenario-based space missions, land and water survival training, and a state-of-the-art flight dynamics programs.
The camp was sponsored by Honeywell. The space camp is one element of the company鈥檚 award-winning math and science education initiative. The program is designed to help teachers move beyond the standard math and science curriculum with supplemental teaching techniques developed through real-life astronaut training.
Pearce and other Honeywell educators received a full scholarship following a rigorous application, international competition and selection process. Scholarships included tuition for the six-day program, round-trip airfare, meals, accommodations and program materials.
Since the program鈥檚 inception, Honeywell and its employees have sponsored more than 1,448 scholarships for teachers from 43 countries and 50 U.S. states, to participate in the Honeywell Educators @ Space Academy programs.
